Medical Aid GAP Cover

This page is for people that already have Medical Aid cover and want to extend the benefits that are available to them.

This is done via the use of Medical Aid Gap Cover or Medical Aid Top - Up cover.

Before you read further, please let me say... that the first and most important choice you need to make is the correct selection of the medical aid plan that is right for you.
The Gap Cover offered here is in no way intended to affect your correct medical aid plan selection upfront.

Once you fully understand your medical aid plan, then, I suggest that you look at the Gap Cover options.

Having said all the above, there are 2 specific products to look at below. This Gap Cover is underwritten by a reputable company and the plans apply to any medical aid scheme that you might have.

Below is an explanation of why you would want to select one of the 2 products in addition to having a medical aid membership and the premiums for the additional products.
If you need further information or want to query anything specifically, then please use the contact form below and i will help you as best as i can.

Products available:

Pro - Care Xtra and pro - Care product

Why use this?

This is the type of product that most people looking for Gap cover would be using.

It covers you for up to 4 times your medical aid rate in hospital.

To explain in more detail:
what often happens to medical aid members is that when they are admitted to hospital they end up with a co - payment on their  surgeon/ anaesthetist bill.

This is usually the result of a doctor/ specialist/ anaesthetist billing a rate that is higher than the rate that the medical aid scheme reimburses at.

Invariably, this results in the member feeling embittered towards the scheme of which they are a member.

Most schemes will pay out on their middle of the range to top options at a maximum of 2 x the scheme rate for these accounts.
A lot of specialists can charge higher than this rate...as they are in high demand and need to be reimbursed adequately for that demand.

The Pro - Care product is therefore designed to provide more peace of mind for the member of a scheme at a minimum monthly premium.

This is preferable to the member being faced with a big co - payment at precisely the time that they are unwell.

An Example would be: Let us assume that you are on a medical aid plan type that pays out at 100% of the scheme rate, you would then select the Pro - Care Xtra or the Pro - Care 100 product and this product would pay out the balance /difference of the bill up to 4 the medical aid scheme's rate.

The Pro - Care product is mainly for in - hospital treatment and procedures.

The Pro - Care Xtra product includes an extra benefit to extend in - hospital sublimits for pathology, radiology and maternity by R2 500 per admission.

The maximum age at entry on all the plans is 65 next birthday.

The plans that are available are the Pro - Care Xtra, Pro - Care 100, 150, 200 and 300.

All policies not starting at the same time as the Medical Aid will have a 3 month waiting period.
There is a 9 month waiting period on all Maternity benefits.

Maxi - Care Product:

 Reason for using this cover:

You would select this option if your medical aid scheme or plan type has an overall annual limit for in - hospital treatment.

With some schemes that have kept an annual overall limit for in - hospital cover, you could be exposed to high co - payments if you have a serious hospital admission.

I have seen claims that stretch to 6 million Rand  for in - hospital claims.
So, if you do have a limit , consider this product carefully, as you could end up financially broken in a situation like this. ( this does not apply to Discovery Health members - unless you are on an old Foundation Plan. As, none of the current Discovery Health plans have an overall annual limit).

The maximum age at entry on all the plans is 65 next birthday.

Options:

There are 2 options to choose from:

To increase your overall annual hospital limit by R1 750 000 or to increase your overall annual hospital limit by R3 500 000.

Premiums:

Maxi-Care (R1,750,000 cover)
