Travel Health insurance usually covers against “health” conditions/ occurrences that happen whilst travelling. However, some products also offer coverage for lost baggage, cancelled flights and the like.
In South Africa, some medical aids provide 90 days cover out of South Africa… so separate travel insurance is often not necessary, if you have a medical aid with this international cover.
Some credit card companies also offer some form of travel insurance when you buy your flight through the card. Some gap companies offer travel insurance through their policies.
TIP: check if you have cover through your medical aid and whether it will suffice for your visa, if cover is needed.
WARNING: not all travel insurance coverage is the same, so check your policy carefully against what you require.
We no longer offer travel insurance as stand alone cover.
