Listeriosis

Listeriosis, the causes/ symptoms and prevention.

Listeriosis is food poisoning caused by eating food contaminated with the bacteria (germ) known as Listeria
monocytogenes. Listeriosis may affect any person but is more dangerous in pregnant women, newborn
babies, the elderly, and people with impaired immune systems. Babies can be born with Listeriosis if their
mothers eat contaminated food during pregnancy.

The Council for Medical Schemes has just published a CMScript.

You can download the document here: CM Script Listeriosis.

It gives details as to what causes Listeriosis, the symptoms of the poisoning, who is at risk of contracting the disease and also how it is dealt with under the PMB’s.

Also mentioned is how it is treated.
